Molybdenum
Molybdenum is not only trace element bur it is a mineral too. It serves molybdenum + minerals. Many people question that what is molybdenum and what is its use in body? So to answer this question it is necessary to describe its sole functions in human body. This molybdoenzymes works as a cofactor for several enzymes that increase or catalyze vital chemical transformations as catalyst cofactor. It acts as catalyst in the global carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur cycles. So it is mediatory catalyst that enhances different environmental cycles to mingle in it and to be provided everywhere. Perhaps, molybdenum-dependent enzymes are required not only for human health and stability, but also for the maintenance and regulation of our ecosystem.
The naturally found molybdenum is organic one and it is found in most of the molybdoenzymes considered in nature as cofactor. In humans, the characteristic served by molybdenum is known as a cofactor for three enzymes:
- Sulfite oxidase
- Xanthine oxidase
- Aldehyde oxidase
There are many concepts about molybdenum and its uses. Facts about molybdenum are that it is a catalyst element that serves as mineral and molybdenum minerals are very essential for health. Molybdenum minerals are to perform different kind of function in atmosphere and when it comes about molybdenum in diet then information about molybdenum can be taken from any book on minerals or from internet. There was concept before that dietary molybdenum deficiency has never been observed in healthy people. The single accepted case of molybdenum deficiency in a patient with Crohn's sickness that was record on long-term total parenteral nutrition (TPN) with no molybdenum mixed to the TPN. The patient underwent rapid heart and respiratory rates, headache, night blindness, and ultimately became comatose. This patient also presented biological and chemical signs of molybdenum deficiency that includes low plasma uric acid levels.
Molybdenum deficiency is too much bad for human health it is mostly found in the persons those are living in developing countries or the persons with low intake of molybdenum in diet. It is related to many enzymes and enzyme play important role in human body. No reaction is possible without the presence of enzymes. So molybdenum deficiency absence or low levels can slow down different body reactions. If a reaction is slowed down then it can inhibit and stimulate many other reactions those can start disturbances throughout the body some times it results into the person undergoing comatose a complete sleep of brain. This study shows that if following symptoms are seen in a patient then he must go to laboratory for molybdenum and lab test for deficiency only.
Molybdenum food sources are many and most of them are plants; as molybdenum is taken up by plants from soil and then eaten by human in the form of food and the food that is rich in molybdenum source. These are recorded and claimed good molybdenum food sources, in the meantime animal products, fruits, and many vegetables are most of the time low in molybdenum. Because the molybdenum content of all the food sources containing it is only one that is soil animals met has it because they eat fodder having molybdenum in it. Plants take it from the soil and then accumulate it with respect to its need in plant body that is then further eaten up by human being.
Blood molybdenum is found in combination with other elements and blood molybdenum is very good for health if it is in sufficient amount otherwise it can cause molybdenum arthritis by increasing uric acid level in body. Molybdenum in body in excessive form can cause molybdenum arthritis and many other diseases.
