Iodine
Iodine is basic constituent of food. Iodine is very important for thyroid functions. The total iodine content of the body is 20-30mg and 20 of which is contained in the thyroid gland thyroid iodine occurs in the flowing form. 1% has iodide ions, 20-25 % incorporated in thyroid hormones {(triodothyronine t3) and (triodothyronine t4)}. However with greater intake for example use of iodinated salt act the plasma level may increases corresponding organic or hormonal iodine. Iodine deficiency leads to simple or colloid goiter increased size of thyroid gland which is quite endemic in certain geographical areas of the world.
