Choline
Choline is not vitamin but it is vitamin like compound. Choline is widely spread among plant and animal food. Choline is very simple compound and it can be synthesized in the liver from the amino acid serine. Synthesis of Choline is greatly affected by vitamin B, and vitamin B12, folate and as well as amino acid methionine as a source of methyl group. Choline is essential part of phosphor lipids, and play important role in transmethylation reactions because it can act like methyl donor group. Choline cannot perhaps act like methyl donor in it but only after it is converted to betaine by oxidation.
Choline is also utilized in the synthesis of acetylcholine that is naturally occurring emulsifiers present in lipoproteins, cell membranes and bile. The name Choline is derived from French word chole' which means "bile". Now question arises that what is acetylcholine and what is its use? Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter and it is important neural messenger to express the emotions and do physical works. Choline is not needed dietary ingredient because it can be readily synthesized otherwise provided the food is adequate.
Choline deficiency might lead to liver failure. Deficient Choline liver damage is unlike the liver damage caused by alcoholism. If a person is fed no Choline diet then he may develop liver dysfunction. Choline is basically an important constituent of liver and bile juice. Choline is very important as its deficiency can cause liver damage and other problem. Choline benefits are not many but it is essential for life and liver development. Choline benefits the synthesis of acetylcholine that is important compound as neurotransmitter. Some people imagine that high level Choline can cause liver damage but Choline deficiency is related with liver damage. There is no phenomenon like high levels of Choline liver damage. Choline in high amount can cause Choline erection and this Choline erection further can cause stomach cancer by metabolizing into a carcinogenic compound named nitrosamines.
There is a great effect of acetylcholine on heart it stimulates heart beat rate and shows the excitement condition. It dilates the arteries and veins to cause a soothing effect in the mean time of excitement of any hyper attitude. There is a great effect of acetylcholine on heart. It reduces blood pressure and relaxes nerves.
There is no perfect data available that how much IU are perfect for daily intake of Choline but a rough estimate tells that maximum daily Choline dosage must be 700-900mg/day. This is the standard drawn up till now in case of maximum daily Choline dosage. Choline has one more very useful benefit that it protects acetylcholine and keeps up its synthesis for further body usage. Choline inhibits the break down of acetylcholine and it provides protection to stock of acetylcholine in body.
Choline is not always needed in the body like other vitamins. Choline and one other vitamin like compound called inositol are important only when body needs them. So there is always timed release Choline and inositol in body to avoid extra production of these molecules in body. Timed release of Choline and inositol in body assures the limit of its action at its target tissues.
Adder all acetylcholine interaction can also be monitored by Choline as acetylcholine is under the effect of Choline synthesis. Choline in foods can be taken while eating yolk, liver, kidneys, brain, heart and nervous tissue. Mostly Choline in food is found in animal origin food. But other Choline in foods can be eaten which are good sources as muscle tissue, legumes, germs of grain and seed meals and green leafy vegetables. Choline is very helpful to maintain liver and heart function. Liver and heart are sole organs of body and this vitamin Choline is best to keep these organs fit and healthy. Choline can help heart and liver to get nourishment and make it healthy. Choline is very important for life.
